  3.                             Worldwide registration.
  4.  
  5. You may pay for registration in any currency that can legally be sent by
  6. mail from your country of residence. Most governments impose no restriction.
  7. National central bank currency notes only. No coins.
  8.  
  9. You may pay in a mixture of currencies. Use up those small amounts of
  10. currency left over from foreign travel! To help you put together the correct
  11. combination, the spreadsheet file CURRENCY.WKS is provided. Most popular
  12. spreadsheet programs can read the .WKS format. If you have no spreadsheet
  13. program, the shareware product AS-EASY-AS is recommended.

  16.                        How to calculate exchange rates
  17.  
  18. Rates quoted in financial journals are money market central rates.
  19. The rates in the "Units/$US" column of CURRENCY.WKS are central rates
  20. per U.S. dollar. The cost of registration in your currency is 25 times your
  21. currency's central rate/$US.
  22. Example:
  23.    International registration costs US$25.
  24.    The Wall Street Journal gives a rate of 3.99-4.01 for the Ruritanian Dinar.
  25.    In CURRENCY.WKS we enter 4.00 for Ruritania.
  26.    The cost of registration for Ruritanians is 25*4.00 = 100 dinars.

  28. Rates quoted in popular newspapers are tourist rates.
  29. Most tourist rates are about 4% worse than the central rate.
  30. Example:
  31.    At Ruritania airport the exchange bureau charges RD1040 for US$250 .
  32.    The central rate is 4% less: RD1000 for $250 or 4.00 dinars/dollar.

  35.                             For users paying cash:
  36.                If your currency has no small denomination bills.
  37.  
  38. In some countries the lowest value banknote is worth $6-$10, so users may not
  39. be able to put together exactly $25. Pay the nearest amount possible.
  40. The price of your low cost upgrade to version 2 will be adjusted to compensate.

  42. Make sure your payment is worth at least $22, or you will not qualify for full
  43. support. Users whose payment is worth $26 or more can request a refund in U.S.
  44. $1 bills. Occasionally it will be possible to make refunds in other currencies.
  45. Mention any countries that you expect to visit. Refunds will be paid as soon as
  46. banknotes are available. $1 bills are sometimes difficult to obtain in England.
  47. If no refund of an overpayment is requested, a credit note will be issued.

  52. In the example below, the spreadsheet shows that you can pay the
  53. registration fee of US$25 by sending:
  54.  
  55.       13 US dollars
  56.      300 Greek Drachmas
  57.      200 Portugese Escudos
  58. and   12 Swiss Francs
  59.  
  60. The rates "Units per $US" were correct 27 September 1992.
  61. Because of exchange rate fluctuations, you may need to alter these.
  62. You may use other currencies than those shown.
  63. Change entries in the "Country", "Unit", and "Units per $US" columns
  64. to accommodate the currencies you have.

  66. If you know the exchange rates relative to you own currency, you can put
  67. these in the "units per local unit" column and the rates per dollar will be
  68. calculated automatically.
  69. To make this work, you MUST put the number of US dollars per unit of your
  70. currency into the cell where row="USA",column="units per local unit".
  71. The entire spreadsheet depends on this value.

  73. Set all "Amount of currency" values to zero, then put whatever banknotes
  74. you have in the "Amount of currency" column until the total of the "Amount
  75. in US$" column is as close as possible to 25.00 .
